WHAT’S SUP?
SUP is a shortened word version for Stand Up Paddle Boarding. Standup paddle boarding began where most board sports that involve water began, in Hawaii. Known in Hawaii as Hoe he’e nalu, SUP got it’s beginning as a way for photographers and surf instructors to have a higher vantage point on the water.
SUP uses a long wide surf style board and a long paddle adjustable to your height. Surprisingly for most first time users, the board is very stable to the water and quite easy to navigate. Paddle boarders position their feet in a balanced fashion on the board and alternate paddling on each side. SUP gives adventurers a unique opportunity to connect with the body of water they are paddling. At basecamp our paddling adventures take us to lakes, rivers and even ocean bays and beaches.
As a business owner, do you look for opportunities for a new approach to a Board Meeting? Do you think outside the box for a new spin on the traditional employee meeting? Then Base Camp has the answer, meetings that take place on a paddle board! Our “Board Meetings” encourage teamwork and build lasting memories for your team, and they also happen to take place in some of the most beautiful parts of Oregon.
SUP SUNRISE class consists of a quick introduction of equipment and water safety, followed by a warm-up paddle on the river. Each student then will anchor their boards close for instruction. We practice slow stretches and some core strength work. We wind down while listening to the birds sing and a blissful float that will quiet your mind and lift your spirit.
